Mrs. Gwendolyn Ramsey (Tolbert) was born to the union of Doris Tolbert and John Quincy Tolbert, May 16, 1956 at KU Medical Center. Gwen was the youngest sibling and only daughter. She was preceded in death by her parents. Gwen accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior at an early age. Sister Ramsey attended Manual High School and was a part of the graduating class of 1974. Upon completion of high school, she pursued her passion in Nursing, working as an APRN at Truman Medical Center. It was there she met and later married her beloved husband, Hosea Ramsey III. Gwen also worked at Samuel A Rodgers Health Center, KC, MO. Hosea and Gwen were married for 38 years until his passing in 2018. Together they were the proud parents of 6 children, Kynan, Hosea Ramsey IV (Deceased), Terrence, Phillip, Eric, and Precious Ramsey. Together Hosea and Gwen fostered over 20 children through the Black Adoption Agency of America.

At the tender age of 10 Gwen began taking piano lessons. Her piano lessons led her into the music ministry under the leadership of Pastor Robert B. Poe of The Canaan Missionary Baptist Church. After the death of Pastor Poe, for a short while she served as a pianist at Skylight Missionary Baptist Church. Gwen later joined Temple of Faith Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Pastor Dr. O Cordell Moore, and the late Pastor John F. Payne. She lovingly and faithfully, served as their pianist for over 20 years. Gwen faithfully prayed for Pastor Faulkner and her entire church family.
She was a registered member of the Kansas City Chapter of the Gospel Music Workshop of America, founded by the late Reverend James Cleveland.

Sister Gwendolyn Ramsey was a woman of great strength, courage, and dignity. She exhibited great character, high morals and Christian values. She was a fighter in spite of the many challenges she encountered. The strength of Sis Ramsey could be shown in her soft and kindhearted nature, and the graceful manner in which she endured life’s challenges.

She leaves to cherish her memories two brothers John Lee and Kenneth Raymond Tolbert, four sons Kynan Jevon Ramsey, Terrence Ramsey, Phillip J. Ramsey, Eric Anthony Ramsey and one daughter, Precious Inez Ramsey, grandson’s Marcellus, Cory, Kendall, Myles, and Ethan- and a host of relatives and friends.

An Angel touched her and she slept, good night for now beloved one and we’ll see you in the morning. -The Family
