Wilmer Ford, Jr. (65) was born on September 2, 1955 to Wanda Strickland and Wilmer Ford, Sr., who preceded him in death. Two sisters, Benita Shepard and Denise Ford and one brother, Verdell Ford also preceded him in death.
Wilmer, who was affectionately known as, “Junebug” to his friends and family. Wilmer was raised in Kansas City, MO. He lost his sight at the age of eight years old. Not wanting being blind to hinder his learning, his family sent him to the St. Louis School for the Blind in St. Louis, MO.
While attending St. Louis School for the Blind, he was a member of the track and wrestling teams. One of his favorite classes was his automotive class, where he developed a love for cars. Upon graduation, in 1981 he returned to Kansas City and began working at Alphapointe, an organization, which supports adults and youth who are blind or visually impaired. While working at Alphapointe, he met Charlotte Nevels. Wilmer and Charlotte were married on May 31, 1984.
Wilmer was employed at Alphapointe for 28 years, until his retirement in 2009. Upon retirement, he enjoyed travelling, watching television and going to the casino. He enjoyed listening to audio books and the blues and working on cars.
He accepted Christ at an early age and was Member of Fellowship Right Baptist Church.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his wife of 36 years, Charlotte Ford; two sisters, Shirley Ford and Valetta Thomas both of Kansas City, MO; two sisters-in law, Joyce Robins of Las Vegas, NV and Nicole Nevels of Kansas City, MO; four brothers-in-law, Robert Nevels (Bonnie) of Kansas City, MO, Stacy Fitzpatrick (Rhonda) of Aurora, IL; Troy Nevels of Kansas City, MO and Steven Nevels of Las Vegas, NV; four very dear friends, Jeffrey Rowe, Mark Bush, Kenneth Watson and Tracy Paris; and a host of other relatives and friends.
